The sun shone down on Poole as they came from behind to register only their third home victory of the season.

The first 30 minutes was a fairly even contest but Wealdstone went ahead on 13 minutes when Seller’s cross from the left appeared to evade everyone to go straight in to the net.  A really soft goal.  Moore’s cross was well met by Whisken to produce a good save from North.  Poole should have equalised on 27 minutes when Constable put Bentley through but his shot brought a brilliant save from North.  As the half progressed Wealdstone took control but Poole managed to keep the deficit to 1 goal.  A half that seemed to sum up Poole’s season – not much luck and a soft goal meant they went in behind despite being a match for the opposition.

On 53 minutes Constable played through Alawode-Williams who neatly cut back and shot for the corner but North made another incredible save to deny Poole the equaliser.  At that point it felt like luck was not with Poole.  In short succession Tommy took off Spetch and Moore and brought on Balmer and Walker.  Williams had struggled on the wing but moving back to defence played much better.  With Balmer on the wing Poole looked more of a threat.  Wealdstone were denied a second on 60 minutes after Sheppard broke free on goal but a heavy touch allowed Hutchings to quickly beat Sheppard to the ball.  This was probably the pivotal moment of the game – if Sheppard had scored it would probably have been game over.  But shortly after, Constable cleverly drew a foul in the box with Devlin’s 67 minute penalty sending North the wrong way to level the scores.  4 minutes later and Poole were ahead when Balmer’s excellent cross from the right found Bentley who neatly collected and finished passed North.  Poole almost had another chance a minute later but wrong decision making denied them.  For the final 10 minutes Wealdstone put Poole under huge pressure as they sought the equaliser.  A long cross to the back post saw Fidgett smash the ball at Hutchings who kept it out.  Following a corner, Bubb’s low shot looked goal bound but Hutchings pulled off a great save.  A minute later and Devlin cleared another goal bound shot.  But Poole hung on for a deserved victory.

Just 1 game and 3 points – but how this cheered me up.  A bit of luck our way for a change – but great fighting spirit by the team.  To come back from 1 down to win – and to hold on against the late barrage.  This was like Poole of previous seasons.  So well done lads – just need to keep that fighting spirit for 4 more games!
