Chairman’s Blog 4
The main purpose of these thoughts is to express the thanks of both myself and my Boardroom colleagues for the fantastic support and loyalty shown to the Club by our supporters and sponsors in 2017 and to extend our fervent hope that that support continues throughout 2018. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
There was a great article written in the Non League Paper today by Ian Ridley, talking about the financial worries of the vast number of semi-professional football Clubs and the many sleepless hours suffered by those responsible for somehow getting all the bills paid. Need I say that a bumper crowd on Boxing Day for the home fixture v Truro KO 3.00 pm, would help my sleep pattern for at least a few days!
How on reflection then do we all view 2017? Success? Failure? Shoot from the hip response from some would be – couldn’t participate in playoffs, not good start to new season,n ot good home results- failure. Is that fair?
Can I make a case for the defence please?
In my view 2017 was probably one of the most successful if not the most successful twelve months in the Club’s history.
The first three months of the year saw us complete an incredible achievement in upgrading the Black Gold to an FA step 2 grade ground, passing the strict scrutiny of the FA ground graders. The battles we had to win, planning, political, financial, contractual, logistical- were immense. At the start of that journey I just couldn’t see how we were going to succeed. Succeed we did though and NLS football was secured. Awesome!
Think back to Holt and Haskell’s Rec days. Then tell me that 2017 was not our best year ever!
