We can still do this!

The defeat at Hungerford on Easter Monday was a bitter blow. Disappointment hung over everyone associated with the Football Club like the proverbial black cloud. With the squad rocked by suspensions and injuries and illness, the game was always going to be a difficult one. In the aftermath of losing such a vital fixture it is understandable that there should be an air of pessimism. The fact of the matter is however that we do still have a chance.

We have several positives to cling onto. Firstly, we will have James Constable back after just one more game. Secondly, there are other players returning from injury. Thirdly, Concord have if anything a harder run of closing fixtures than we do and we also have to play each other. If we can somehow hang on in to the situation mathematically until the last three games in the season then what a climax that promises to be with a trip to Concord Rangers on the penultimate Saturday of the season 21st April and then two home games on Tuesday the 24th against Whitehawk and the final Saturday 28th April against Oxford City with both of those opponents having nothing to play for. Marvin Brooks will of course be back from his suspension for those last three games.

The other big thing that we have going for us is that the dressing room is not divided. So often in the situation in which we currently find ourselves there will be division in the dressing room. There will be cliques among the players. Not everyone will be buying into the same common cause. That is not the case with our team. All the players remain united and remain committed to doing all that they can to pull off what will undoubtedly be one of the greatest of escapes and if achieved will be celebrated every bit as much as any of our recent league championships.

We all need to stick together, keep the faith and reserve any inquests until the season’s end.

We can do it!
